We do not like the current aluminum cases, we recommend tried-and-true magnesium! We only use these in all our personal engines.If you are in a hurry, plan ahead! Cases are machined to order, because there are so many combinations of machine work. Case machining can take 3-4 WEEKS depending on the time of year and the current order backlog, do not order a machined case and expect it to ship the same day (standard cases are ready to ship same day). Backlogs are worst in spring and early summer, in the fall or winter they ship quicker.
It's worth noting that "welded #3" is NOT NEEDED. This process distorts the case, and requires line boring to resize the flywheel main bearing. This process was needed with non deep-studded cases, because of the way the head stud (#3 top outside) pulled, and the main case bolt pulled the other way, cracking the case. When VW moved the stud to the "deep stud" version, this stress was removed, as so was any need to weld the case web behind #3. We routinely run unwelded cases bored for 94s without issue, and sleep just fine at night. ;-)
ALERT! The consumer should be aware that a major company (not us) has received and is selling cases that are not correct for the U.S. market. These cases are advertised as a dual relief universal case, but it is single relief and has too small oil galleys, and several other known problems, so you should beware this deception on these defective cases!
