Copper head gaskets are a sure-fire way to prevent head leaks! They seal much better than the way VW designed them! These are a MUST on high output engines over 180hp. Choose size and thickness. Price is for a set of 4 gaskets to do 1 complete engine.
The use of a soft copper head gasket between the cylinder and head really makes this area stronger! NO LEAKS! They are available in two thicknesses, .040" and .060". If you want to run .100" deck height, you can run a shim between the case and cylinder to achieve this measurement, OR run a shim .040" less (and a .040" copper gasket), or a shim .060" less ( and a .060" copper gasket). This means you have more adjustment since you can use cylinder base shims AND copper head gaskets. In addition, you can use these to "regain" material if your heads have been flycut a lot. If you want to run .060" deck, you can simply set your cylinder shims to ZERO deck, and then run a .060" head gasket. These also prevent $$$ cylinders with an 86mm crank. Normally, you need longer cylinders, but with these, you run zero deck and a copper head gasket, and this moves the cylinder down where it can support the piston at BDC (it's normally too short). These shims are reusable after engine teardown; simply heat with a torch until they glow RED, then allow them to slowly air cool (this is annealing, and re-softens the copper so they seal again).
