We coined the "SVDA" term in the mid/late 90s; SVDA stands for Single Vacuum Dual Advance (both vacuum and centrifugal advance). The ACN SVDA uses the same cap and rotor as the 009. Starting with a brand new unit, we then re-curve them to OUR SPECS, depending on what induction you are using. This is not a factory distributor that was ever produced for VWs.The ACN SVDA is the finest "stock type" distributor avaialable for your aircooled engine. We can't believe the other stores are still promoting the 009, that is a joke. The only nice thing about the 009 is it's inexpensive, so it's nice to "keep around" in case you have a distributor problem of some sort.
It is humorous to see other shops and stores starting to jump on the "Vacuum Advance Bandwagon". We developed the SVDA over a decade ago due to our own tuning problems with centrifugal only distributors. ACN was ridiculed and attacked for "selling something that isn't needed", and now these same "experts" are telling everyone of the benefits of vacuum advance. The funny part we educated THEM on how and why it works, and now all of a sudden they are the experts, LOL. We know more about tuning and setting up the SVDA then anyone, even our installation instructions point out several "mistakes" the other guys overlook.
It's important to note that a Pertronix or Compufire for a 009 or 050 will NOT fit the SVDA, the units are slightly different.
SVDA comes with points, cap, rotor, and condenser, but does NOT include the distributor o-ring. We also recommend you reset the points if you intend to run them.
We have had repeated inquiries about SVDAs for 30 PICT 1 and 30 PICT 2 carbs. There is NO SVDA compatible with the 30-1 or 30-2 carbs, so your options are to either put a stock distributor on, use a 009 (yuck), or put an SVDA on with a 30/31 carb, since we have an SVDA for the 30/31.
Customer Quote - You should sub-head the SVDA distributor as "aka New-Bug-In-A-Box". I took about 15 minutes to yank my old 009 and put in the SVDA. Wow! What a difference. Quick cold starts, less throttle needed to get anywhere, and much smoother running throughout the RPM range. Too soon to know what the mileage gains are - but I'm sure I'll see improvements there too. (But you already knew this would happen - you said it already in your product info!) Overall - I am exceedingly pleased. This item in its first drive already far surpassed what I thought it would do for my Bug.
