These components are what you need if you have a large heavy-breathing engine, but must have heater boxes on your street car! Nice system, and the heater boxes AND header already have thick flanges for a no-leak connection (no doughnut gaskets to blow out 3 days after you put new ones on!). The beauty of this system is you use the heater boxes in the winter, but then remove them and run the supplied J-pipes in the "driving season" to keep the engine cool!
We recommend these for heads with 35 and 37mm exhaust valves. You can also use them on stock heads if you plan on upgrading the heads later. The merged header is 1 5/8". The heater boxes, despite what "other" shops may tell you, are 1 1/2" ID. Without paying BIG BUCKS for a custom system, this is the only game in town for right now folks. These heater boxes do NOT have fins around the tubes like the stock ones did, but they still work pretty well because the tube is larger (more surface area), and any engine that needs a bigger exhaust is usually running hotter anyways (or at least more exhaust). It's very important to note that "Hideaway" mufflers DO NOT clear the heaterboxes in any application. Our Phat-Boys are designed to fit this system though. This system clears the stock thermostat! 68-71 bus owners: this system DOES FIT, but the clearance is 0 against the mustache bar (rear engine bar). You will likely have to grind the mustache bar a little to get the exhaust to fit.
